PCdoB condemns escalation of the imperialist war against Iran and calls for peace
The National Political Commission of the PCdoB issued a resolution on the escalation of the imperialist war following the bombing of Iran and the urgency of the struggle for peace and against imperialism.
“The imperialist attack on Iran cannot be understood as an isolated episode. It is part of a broader strategy attempting to recover, through the use of force, the global hegemony of the United States in a historical moment marked by profound transformations and in which a new multipolar reality is taking shape,” the resolution states.
The document concludes by emphasizing that “given the gravity of the international situation, the Communist Party of Brazil calls on democratic, progressive, and peace-loving forces, in Brazil and in the world, to intensify the mobilization against war, against imperialism, and in defense of peaceful coexistence among nations.”

On the escalation of the imperialist war following the bombing of Iran and the urgency of the struggle for Peace and against imperialism
The National Political Commission of the Communist Party of Brazil expresses its deep concern and firm condemnation of the grave military escalation in the Middle East following the bombing carried out by United States military forces, in partnership and coordination with Israel, against Iran on February 28th, 2026.
The operation resulted in the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other political and military authorities of the country, triggering a large-scale war. This is an act of extreme gravity that represents a direct aggression against Iranian sovereignty and a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the most elementary principles of international law. Iran has relied on international law regarding legitimate defense to retaliate against the belligerent adversaries.
The imperialist attack on Iran cannot be understood as an isolated episode. It is part of a broader strategy attempting to recover, through the use of force, the global hegemony of the United States in a historical moment marked by profound transformations and in which a new multipolar reality is taking shape. It is a moment when the world is experiencing generalized conflicts, where the interests of nuclear-armed powers are clashing. The high level of danger in this scenario is that these are confrontations with a high degree of unpredictability regarding their outcome.
The military offensive against Iran is, therefore, part of a strategy of demonstrating force directed not only at Iran itself but at other central actors in the contemporary geopolitical dispute. By promoting an attack of this magnitude and assassinating a high-level leader of a sovereign State, Washington seeks to send a political and military message to powers that challenge its global hegemony, particularly Russia and especially China. All this with the consent of most countries of the European Union and the United Kingdom, with a few exceptions such as Spain.
The war occurs at a time when US power shows growing signs of wear and tear in the face of the emergence of new powers, the shift of global economic dynamism to Asia, and the strengthening of multilateral articulations among countries of the Global South. Washington seeks to preserve its strategic primacy through a combination of economic pressure, extraterritorial sanctions, the strengthening of military alliances, and the ever increasing direct use of force. There is an evident escalation in the dimensions of the imperialist war. This orientation finds expression in the United States National Security Strategy published at the end of 2025, which explicitly reaffirms the objective of maintaining the North American global dominant position and containing the advance of powers considered strategic rivals.
In this context, the partnership between the United States and Israel occupies a central position in the geopolitical architecture built by Washington in the Middle East. The cooperation between the two countries, which together promote the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza, involves advanced military integration, intelligence sharing, and direct coordination of strategic operations. The bombing of Iran highlights the degree of integration of this alliance and demonstrates that Israel functions as a fundamental instrument of North American military projection in the Middle East.
Evidence of this is the use of targeted assassination of leaders and directors of sovereign countries, considered enemies, through surgical military actions that have become a common practice of Israel with the support of the US. A method equally employed by the US in our South American region with the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady and Congresswoman Cilia Flores of Venezuela on January 3, 2026.
Such an appeal to military force acquires even greater significance when considering the central role of the Middle East in the global energy dispute. The region concentrates some of the largest oil and natural gas reserves on the planet and constitutes one of the main strategic nodes of the world energy system. The control of maritime routes and energy infrastructures that cross the Middle East, including the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, is of decisive importance for the energy supply of various economies in the world, particularly Asian economies, and notably China. The military escalation against Iran must also be interpreted as part of the strategic dispute for the control of the sources and energy routes that fuel the world economy.
The current logic of attempting to reaffirm North American hegemony also manifests itself, as we well know, in the Western Hemisphere, in the Americas as a whole. Washington has sought to revitalize its traditional policy of regional dominance under the guise of the bicentennial Monroe Doctrine by reaffirming Latin America and the Caribbean as territories kept under its influence. This orientation has translated into growing threats and political, economic, and military pressure on governments in the region, highlighting the ongoing economic genocide against Cuba and the blackmail against Venezuela, and into initiatives aimed at reinforcing the North American military presence on the continent, such as the recent agreement signed with Paraguay.
For Brazil and Latin America, it becomes even more important to affirm a foreign policy based on the defense of sovereignty, regional integration, and the construction of a multipolar international order founded on cooperation among peoples. In this sense, cooperation initiatives among countries of the Global South and multilateral mechanisms such as the BRICS assume a strategic role in building alternatives to unilateralism and the politics of force.
Given the gravity of the international situation, the Communist Party of Brazil calls on democratic, progressive, and peace-loving forces, in Brazil and in the world, to intensify the mobilization against war, against imperialism, and in defense of peaceful coexistence among nations.
For peace among nations.
Against the escalation of the imperialist war.
For respect for the sovereignty of peoples.
