The National Political Commission of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) released a resolution addressing the main challenges of 2026, the year of the 104th anniversary of the country’s oldest active party.

The document draws attention to two central points: fighting for Lula’s reelection and for the victory of the communists’ electoral project, and strengthening the party with the legacy of Renato Rabelo and Márcio Cabreira, two great communist leaders who passed away in February.

The resolution emphasizes that this year’s presidential dispute will be fierce, “which requires, from now on, engagement in the battle by all democratic, patriotic, and popular forces.” It continues: “For the PCdoB, Lula’s campaign must be based on a broad political, social, economic, and cultural composition, the construction of a large front, driven by popular mobilization, in defense of four banners: national sovereignty, democracy, development, and the valorization of work.”

The document also praises the legacy of Rabelo and Cabreira, highlighting that “the examples of lives as intense as they were fulfilling” of both comrades “will be living sap to advance the movement to reinvigorate the PCdoB.”

PCdoB, 104 years

Fight for Lula’s reelection and for the victory of the communists’ electoral project

Strengthen the Party with the legacy of Renato Rabelo and Márcio Cabreira

The PCdoB celebrates its 104 years at the forefront of the journey for the reelection of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, so that Brazil advances on the path of sovereign development, and frees the country from the threat of a return to power by the extreme right, made up of traitors to the homeland and neofascists.

Simultaneously, it seeks the victory of its electoral project, centered on reelection and expanding its bench in the Chamber of Deputies. It carries out a broad, enthusiastic pre-campaign, waving the banner of defending national sovereignty, engaged in the struggle to reduce the working hours, for the end of the 6×1 work scale, in the mobilization against femicide, for the reduction of interest rates and the reindustrialization of the country, for more development, more democracy, for the valorization of work and more rights for the people.

The Party invites the democratic and progressive electorate to participate in the pre-campaign. It invites leaders to affiliate, to run for office and to engage in this historic battle. A strong left is indispensable to prevent the setbacks of the right and the extreme right.

The PCdoB raises the banner of world peace and against imperialist wars. It vehemently condemns Donald Trump’s warmongering offensive to oppress peoples and plunder the wealth of countries. As an internationalist, the PCdoB undertakes actions of solidarity with attacked peoples and countries: to Cuba, under a brutal blockade; to the Palestinian people, victims of genocide; to Venezuela, its people and its government; to Iran, under the bombings of an imperialist war that shakes the world.

It emphasizes that, within a global reality marked by multiple crises of capitalism and significant changes, socialism is regaining prestige. The People’s Republic of China is its greatest expression, but it also stands out in Vietnam and other countries.

The PCdoB, on its anniversary, communicates that it has triggered the process of research and debates to update its Socialist Program for Brazil and adapt it to changes in the country and the world.

Initial reflections indicate that, as a unifying axis of a pole constituted by the left and by patriotic and popular forces, the journey for democratic structural reforms aimed at removing the neoliberal and neocolonial obstacles and constraints that hinder Brazilian development is imperative. And to make up for the lack of a national development project, which affects the progressive political field.

Tribute to the legacy of Renato Rabelo and Márcio Cabreira

The PCdoB has been continuously present in the main events of Brazilian history since its foundation on March 25, 1922, a long-lasting and fulfilling performance that stems from the work of generations of communists who built and brought the Party to the present day.

At its head were Astrojildo Pereira, its main founder and leader of the first generation of communists; Luiz Carlos Prestes, outstanding popular leadership, leader of the second generation; João Amazonas, its main builder and ideologue and leadership of the third generation; and Renato Rabelo, who was at the head of the fourth generation.

Renato passed away on February 15th, 2026, causing a strong impact on the Party. Condolences from all over the country and abroad denote the dimension and strength of his legacy. Renato was part of the Party’s leading core for over half a century.

He was also an active builder and ideologue, with broad respectability among democratic and left-wing forces in Brazil. He cultivated relations and exchanges with communist and revolutionary parties and organizations on different continents.

As President Lula said, Renato was a remarkable man, “one of the most relevant figures in the political history of Brazil.” Likewise, former President Dilma Rousseff classified Renato as “a sweet Bahian with a revolutionary soul, who follows the best of the communist tradition, combining action and thought, theory and combat, committed to national development, the emancipation of the Brazilian people, and the construction of socialism.”

The PCdoB also praises the legacy of leader Márcio Cabreira, who passed away on February 10th, at 54 years of age. From his youth, he was a fearless and talented fighter for the causes of national sovereignty, the rights of the people, and socialism.

He belonged with notable valor to the 8th of October Revolutionary Movement (MR8) and the Free Fatherland Party (PPL). It was its leader who made the first contacts that unfolded in the historic process of integrating the PPL into the PCdoB.

Cabreira was a member of the PCdoB Central Committee, the National Executive Commission and the National Political Commission. He held the positions of Deputy Secretary of Organization and Secretary of Institutional Relations. He won leadership and admiration from the militant collective for his profile that associated political capacity, high revolutionary commitment, tireless dedication, and a factor of unity, due to his style of dialogue and construction.

The examples of lives as intense as they were fulfilling of comrades Renato Rabelo and Márcio Cabreira will be living sap to advance the movement to reinvigorate the PCdoB.

A crucial confrontation for the present and future of the country

The PCdoB emphasizes that Brazil, once again, finds itself facing two antagonistic paths: that of affirming national sovereignty, which will allow it to open space for a new cycle of sovereign development, preserving and expanding democracy, strongly improving the lives of the people, and the return of Bolsonarism, the extreme right, and the sectors associated with it, with a program of national treason, neoliberal and neocolonial regression, under an authoritarian order, with growing social and cultural degradation. This antagonism is stamped on the pre-candidacies of President Lula, and Donald Trump’s servant, Flávio Bolsonaro, anointed by bankers, financial capital, and sectors of the agro-industrial bourgeoisie.

The prognosis that the dispute will be fierce is being confirmed, which requires, from now on, engagement in the battle by all democratic, patriotic, and popular forces. For the PCdoB, Lula’s campaign must be based on a broad political, social, economic, and cultural composition, the construction of a large front, driven by popular mobilization, in defense of four banners: national sovereignty, democracy, development, and the valorization of work. Combining the message of hope with policies and commitments, focused on strongly improving the quality of life of the people.

It will be necessary to repel and neutralize foreign interference, which tends to manifest itself through actions of the Trump administration, via big tech, with blackmail and aggression by various means. At the same time, it is necessary to wage the battle of ideas to respond to the challenges of the cultural war undertaken by the extreme right.

The confrontation will be hard, but the PCdoB is convinced that, with much struggle, breadth, and sagacity, the nation and the working class will achieve another victory with the reelection of President Lula.
