PCdoB – Posições Internacionais

On the Trump administration’s blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers

The Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) strongly condemns the blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers carried out by the United States government on December 16. This is yet another illegal, arbitrary, and aggressive act by US imperialism against a sovereign Latin American country, in flagrant violation of international law and the self-determination of peoples.

Trump’s belligerent action has nothing to do with defending democracy, human rights, or combating drug trafficking. These pretexts, exhaustedly repeated by Washington, have already been proven false and cynical. What is underway is the old policy of plundering natural resources, now exercised through blockades, sanctions, military intimidation, and acts of economic piracy against Venezuela, in accordance with a new National Security Strategy, as published in an official document by the White House in early December.

The blockade of oil tankers is neocolonial piracy. It is an explicit attempt to strangle the Venezuelan economy, control its oil, and impose, by force, a project of submission that the Latin American peoples have rejected for decades. It is a direct attack on Venezuela’s right to trade its own resources and guarantee the material living conditions of its population.

The PCdoB reaffirms its total solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela, as well as its uncompromising defense of national sovereignty, peace, and Latin American integration. We reiterate that only respect for international law, an end to sanctions, and dialogue between nations can pave the way for fair and lasting political solutions.

We call on the democratic, progressive, and anti-imperialist forces of Brazil and the world to speak out against this escalation of aggression and to denounce the predatory and neocolonial nature of the United States’ actions. Latin America is not the backyard of any empire. Our struggle is for sovereignty, peace, and the right of peoples to decide their own destiny.
