Death of Maria Prestes
Dear comrades,
With great sorrow, we inform you of the passing of Maria Prestes, this Friday, February 4, at 92, due to complications caused by COVID.
A revolutionary militant since her youth, Maria Prestes was the widow of Communist leader Luiz Carlos Prestes, the legendary “knight of hope”, with whom she lived for about four decades.
Her fruitful life was dedicated to socialism, to preserving and disseminating Prestes’ legacy, and to taking care, with kindness and zeal, of her family.
Maria Prestes leaves nine children, 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, among them her granddaughter, comrade Ana Maria Prestes, a national cadre of PCdoB.
PCdoB inclines its red flags in tribute to this remarkable Communist, woman and human being that Maria Prestes was, for whom the greatest homage will be the continuity of the struggle for a sovereign, democratic and socialist Brazil.
